Why “Night Glass”
The eye opens wider when there is less light.
That is the center of the name.
In total darkness, the pupil widens. It's not a malfunction — it's the eye doing exactly what it was built to do, opening further to gather whatever light remains.
The soul works the same way. Grief widens something. So does fear, confusion, the nights you can't explain to anyone, the seasons that feel like nothing is moving. These aren't interruptions to your clarity — they're often the only conditions under which real clarity becomes possible at all. You see further in the dark than you do in the noise of an ordinary day, precisely because something in you had to open wider to find any light at all.
Night Glass is built on that. Not a promise that the dark will lift quickly, or that it should. A practice for seeing clearly inside it — using a deck whose entire purpose, for six hundred years, has been exactly that: a mirror built to catch whatever light is available and show it back to you, sharper than you could find alone.

The History
A mirror carried through six centuries.
Before tarot became a reading practice, it was already full of human symbols.
Six hundred years ago, in the courts of Renaissance Italy, a deck of cards was born — not for fortune telling, but for play. The Visconti and Sforza families commissioned them as luxury objects, hand-painted, gold-leafed, designed to delight as much as to win a game.
But look closely at what was painted. Emperors. Justice, holding her scales. Death. The Fool, mid-step off a cliff. These weren't decoration — they were the shared language of the era, the same figures appearing in sermons, poetry, pageants, and art. The deck was already a mirror of the human condition before anyone thought to read it as one.
It took three more centuries before someone did. In the late 1700s, a French occultist looked at this deck of symbols and asked a different question: what if these cards aren't just illustrations of human nature — what if they could reflect a specific human, right now, back to themselves?
That question is the entire practice. Six centuries of artists, mystics, and ordinary people have kept rebuilding this deck, generation after generation, because the need it answers has never gone away — the need to see what's already true, named clearly enough to act on.
Night Glass is the latest hand to hold it.
